Premier League: Lampard hat-trick fires five-star Chelsea
Villas-Boas proud of dominant show against Bolton in Premier League.
BOLTON:
Frank Lampard scored a hat-trick as Chelsea reminded their Manchester title rivals that they also can score freely with a 5-1 thumping of Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Doubles apiece for Lampard and Daniel Sturridge put the visitors four goals up with less than half an hour gone before Bolton pulled one back through Dedryck Boyata after the break.
Lampard completed his treble in the 59th minute with a low, right-footed shot in a performance that will go a long way in silencing his critics. Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas was a proud man after the fine show by his team.
“We’ve been looking for this victory for quite some time,” he said. “It fills us with pride. For various reasons we weren’t able to find a result with this expression before. We’ve been creating the same amount of opportunities but we were more prolific in this game.”
Chelsea got off the mark when Sturridge rose above Gretar Steinsson to nod in a Lampard corner.
The pair combined for the second goal on 15 minutes when Sturridge found Lampard with a pass across the goal that the midfielder swept in with his right foot.
Sturridge drove in the third on 25 minutes after cutting in from the right to unleash a left-footed shot.
Lampard added the fourth in the 27th minute, scooping in the rebound after Adam Bogdan could only parry David Luiz’s powerful shot.
Bolton scored when Boyata jumped high to head in a Martin Petrov free kick. However, Chelsea hit their fifth with Lampard showed his sharp finishing touch as he completed his hat-trick.
Johnson inspires Fulham
Elsewhere, Fulham were inspired by an Andrew Johnson hat-trick as they demolished the Rangers 6-0.
Johnson struck from close-range in the second minute and Danny Murphy netted a 20th minute penalty.
The game was all but over when Johnson scored again in the 38th minute and he earned his treble with a fierce effort in the 59th minute.
Swansea’s Danny Graham scored his first goal for the club as his side beat Stoke 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium.
