'IRSA failed to act impartially on water distribution'

Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif categorically said that the province will not compromise its share of water.

LAHORE: Addressing the Punjab Assembly session, the senior minister Raja Riaz said that Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has failed to act impartially on water distribution and, therefore, asked for a neutral Irsa representative.

He said Punjab had demanded 13,000 cusecs of water, but it got only 10,000 cusecs.

Riaz also said that the Chashma Jhelum Canal link will remain open.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif categorically said that all the provinces should be given their due the province will not compromise its share of water.

Earlier on Wednesday, two Irsa members, each from Islamabad and Sindh resigned apparently in protest against the decision of opening the Chashma-Jhelum link canal to release 10,000 cusecs of water to Punjab.
