Football: ‘Sion’s case is causing chaos’
Sion were thrown out of the competition because they had fielded ineligible players.
LONDON:
Swiss club FC Sion are causing chaos by fighting their expulsion from this season’s Europa League, according to the world football governing body Fifa. Sion were thrown out of the competition because, according to Uefa, they had fielded ineligible players. However, a Swiss civil court has ruled that six players signed in the summer were eligible to play in the Swiss League. “An enormous amount of damage has already been done to Swiss football,” said Fifa’s director of legal affairs Marco Villiger. “Associations are becoming increasingly anxious and the structure of the sport is in danger.”
