Radwanska crowned Pan Pacific champion
Thrashes Russia’s Zvonareva in straight sets.
TOKYO:
Agnieszka Radwanska kept up her immaculate record in finals this season by beating Russia’s Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the WTA Pan Pacific Open.
Radwanska had shrugged off a 0-2 start, taking five games in a row as Zvonareva struggled to put away her first serves. She jumped ahead 4-1 in the second set and, although she dropped her serve in the sixth, she took the following two games, to seal the convincing win.
“I’m happy because I had tough matches, it’s very tough to play every day,” she said.
Murray storms into final
Meanwhile, Andy Murray overcame Gilles Simon 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to qualify for the final of the Thailand Open.
Murray flexed his muscles with a fine variety of ground strokes. The Briton will meet Donald Young in the final, who upset second-seed Gael Monfils 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.
Young was aware of the tough challenge that awaited him in the final.“Andy is world class,” he said. “It won’t be easy for me.”
