KARACHI:
A maximum of 45mm of rain, recorded by the Meteorological Office in Karachi on Wednesday, paralysed life in the metropolis.
At least two deaths were reported – including an eight-year-old child, who drowned in collected rainwater in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. A motorcyclist was also killed in an accident on the ICI Bridge.
The road and traffic network of the city took a big hit, with massive gridlocks reported in many areas of the city due to inundation of key thoroughfares.
The rain was also bad enough for public transport to stay away from certain areas, or charge exorbitant rates to travel there.
According to a KESC spokesperson, the rain caused 90 feeders in some areas to trip but unscheduled power outages were kept to a minimum.
