More nurses hired for better treatment facilities
Naulakha godowns of used tyres fumigated, environment secretary tells CM.

As many as 249 more nurses have been appointed at the teaching hospitals in the city to ensure proper treatment of dengue fever patients, Health Director General Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhary said on Friday.
He was speaking to the media at King Edward Medical University. He said the department was regularly organising awareness walks and seminars on prevention measures.
He said 125,000 pamphlets containing various preventive measures have so far been distributed among citizens. He said anti-mosquito spray has been carried out in 194 houses of people suffering from dengue fever. He said another 28 houses in these neighbourhoods have also been fumigated.
KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Asad Aslam Khan and Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervaiz were also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Environment Secretary on Friday informed the emergency committee for elimination of dengue virus that anti-mosquito spray had been carried out at the godowns of used tyres in Naulakha area. He said steps were already underway to prevent the spread of the virus in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Rawalpindi.
He was responding to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s directive about extension of the spray campaign to godowns of used tyres across the province.
Sharif also asked the Environment Secretary to personally visit all districts and review the measures.
Referring to an Environment Department report, Sharif said the larva of mosquitoes responsible for spreading the virus had also been found in new tyres lying in open areas at various shops in the city.
Earlier, secretaries of various departments gave briefings on steps they had taken to control the spread of the virus.
Lahore Commissioner and District Coordination Officer briefed the meeting on details of the ongoing fogging and spray campaigns and removal of solid waste from the city.
Death toll
Five more deaths were reported from dengue fever in the city on Friday, taking the provincial toll to 125. As many as 464 more people were diagnosed with the disease of which 379 were in Lahore.
