World number two Maria Sharapova has pulled out of next week’s China Open after injuring her ankle. The Russian twisted her left ankle during her match against Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the quarter-finals of the Pan Pacific Open. Former world number one Serena Williams has also pulled out of the event for the second year in a row.
