Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez’s ongoing custody dispute has brought renewed attention to their former marriage, with an insider claiming the French actor considers marrying the Oscar-winning actress "the biggest mistake of his life".

A source described as close to Martinez told the Daily Mail that he married Berry largely because she was pregnant with their son, Maceo, at the time.

"Maceo was the reason Olivier married Halle," the insider alleged. "Halle was pregnant at the time and, as old fashioned as it sounds, he thought it was the right thing to do."

The source also claimed the pair experienced disagreements before their wedding, adding that their relationship became difficult soon afterwards.

The actors met while filming Dark Tide in South Africa in 2010 and married in France in July 2013. Their son was born that October.

They announced their separation in October 2015, saying they would move forward with love and respect while prioritising their son. Their divorce was finalised in August 2023.

The former couple's relationship has since been marked by disagreements over custody. Martinez alleged in an October court filing that Berry attacked and choked Maceo during a September 26 incident.

Berry categorically denied the accusation, stating in court documents, "I have never physically, emotionally or otherwise abused Maceo."

On October 29, a judge dissolved a temporary restraining order against Berry, although Martinez retained temporary primary physical custody. Berry's visits remained restricted, and the court ordered 12 sessions of joint therapy for mother and son.

The legal dispute continued on November 4, when Martinez requested $240,000 from Berry to cover legal fees, including past and anticipated expenses. The request has not yet been granted.

Despite the disagreement, Martinez told Extra, "I don't want my son to hate his mom. I want him to love her. I want him to forgive her."
