Adam Brody regrets keeping his proposal to Leighton Meester too simple

The actor shared advice for anyone planning to propose, saying the story lasts a lifetime

Adam Brody has admitted that he wishes he had made his proposal to wife Leighton Meester more romantic, reflecting on the moment during a recent podcast appearance.

The 46-year-old actor discussed the subject on the October 26 episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, where he appeared alongside his Nobody Wants This co-stars Kristen Bell, Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons. The conversation turned to marriage proposals while the group discussed romantic developments involving characters in their Netflix series.

Brody chose not to reveal the details of his proposal but acknowledged that it fell short of what he now feels Meester deserved.

“The only thing romantic about it was the speed,” he explained, referring to how quickly their relationship progressed. He added that they got married soon after becoming engaged, describing the proposal itself as “very pedestrian”.

Brody and Meester's relationship became public in February 2013, and they became engaged by November of that year. The couple married in a private ceremony in Northern California in early 2014. They have largely kept details of their relationship and wedding away from public attention.

During the podcast, Brody also offered advice to anyone preparing to propose. He suggested that people should consider how the moment will be remembered and retold throughout their lives.

“At the time, you are like, whatever, but you are going to tell that story the rest of your life,” he said, encouraging people to make the occasion memorable.

When Timothy Simons suggested that Brody might have approached the proposal pragmatically, the actor admitted that he still thinks about it.

“There is that. And yet, and yet, I do kick myself a little,” Brody said. “She deserved a little more.”

Brody and Meester share two children and have been married for more than 12 years. The actor is currently starring in the third season of Nobody Wants This, which is streaming on Netflix.
