Ben Wang is reportedly in talks to play Iceman in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men film, according to sources cited by Deadline. The casting has not been officially confirmed by Marvel, and negotiations are understood to be ongoing.

The actor, who is also set to appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is being considered for the role of Bobby Drake, one of the original members of the X-Men. The character first appeared in Marvel Comics’ The X-Men No. 1 in September 1963 and is known for his ability to generate and control ice.

If the deal goes through, Wang will join an expanding ensemble that includes Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Adam Driver as Mr Sinister, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.

Other actors reportedly tested for the Iceman role, including Gabriel LaBelle, Jackson Kelly and Rhenzy Feliz. However, their involvement has not been confirmed.

Iceman previously appeared in the 2000s X-Men film series, with Shawn Ashmore portraying the mutant across several instalments.

Jake Schreier is directing the new film from a screenplay by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. Kevin Feige is producing the project, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on May 5, 2028.

Wang has built a growing profile through roles in Karate Kid: Legends, Disney+ series American Born Chinese and Chang Can Dunk. His recent credits also include The Long Walk, directed by Francis Lawrence, and the 2024 Mean Girls film.

The actor is among several performers gaining attention through major studio projects, although Marvel has yet to announce his casting as Iceman officially.
