Johnny Depp has opened up about the possibility of reprising his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, revealing that he would consider returning for one important reason: giving the franchise a satisfying conclusion.

Speaking to Variety during the promotional tour for his upcoming film Ebenezer, Depp addressed speculation surrounding his potential involvement in the next instalment. Although he stopped short of confirming his return, the actor expressed a willingness to work with longtime friend and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the ‘Pirates’ franchise… the only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note,” Depp said.

He also reaffirmed his trust in Bruckheimer, adding that he would work with the producer again regardless of the project. Their longstanding friendship, he explained, remains an important factor in his willingness to consider returning.

Bruckheimer previously expressed optimism about Depp reprising the role. In 2025, the producer told Entertainment Weekly that the actor could be interested if he liked the screenplay. At the time, the script was still being developed, with the creative team searching for the right story.

Depp played Jack Sparrow across five films released between 2003 and 2017. The franchise has generated approximately $4.5 billion worldwide, making it one of Disney’s most commercially successful film series.

Plans for a sixth film have been in development for years. Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, who worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was previously attached to the project. Bruckheimer has also publicly voiced support for Depp’s involvement.

However, no official casting confirmation or production announcement has been made regarding Depp’s return.
