Taylor Swift has revealed that she initially worried about taking the opportunity to write an original song for Pixar’s upcoming film, Toy Story 5, from another artist.

The 36-year-old singer discussed the experience during a question-and-answer session with director Andrew Stanton following a special screening on Sunday, November 1.

According to Billboard, the conversation explored how Swift came to create “I Knew It, I Knew You” for the animated film.

Stanton explained that Swift was his preferred choice for the project as he wanted to take the soundtrack in a different direction.

Randy Newman, who has composed music for the franchise since the original 1995 film, was not returning for the same role.

“Nothing else made sense,” Stanton said.

Swift was initially unavailable, leading Stanton to believe the film might not have an original end-credits song. However, the singer continued contacting the director to check whether the opportunity was still available or had been offered to someone else.

She explained that she would have understood if the filmmakers had moved forward without her, given the months it took her to respond.

“I don’t want to kick somebody off of this project that you reached out to after [me],” she added. “I understand, but I’m not in the business of doing that.”

Swift eventually wrote “I Knew It, I Knew You”, which went on to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and break multiple records.

The track has also attracted Oscar buzz, adding to anticipation surrounding its appearance in Toy Story 5.

A producer on the Pixar film also reportedly sent Swift a personal letter asking her to contribute an original song.
