Halle Berry reportedly did not share a pointed social media quote about parenting that appeared on her Instagram Stories amid her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, according to a new report.

The actress appeared to post the quote on Monday, October 26, which read: “If kids disrespect their moms, the root cause often traces back to the relationship with the father.”

The post quickly attracted attention, with some social media users speculating that it was directed at Martinez amid the former couple’s legal dispute over their 13-year-old son, Maceo.

However, the quote was reportedly not shared by Berry herself. According to TMZ, a source said the actress’s social media account had been hacked and that the post was not hers. The source added that an investigation was underway to determine how it appeared on her account.

The post was subsequently deleted. Berry did not offer any further context, and her representatives have not publicly commented on the report.

The incident comes amid a contentious custody dispute between Berry and Martinez, who were married in 2013 and finalised their divorce in 2023 with a shared custody agreement.

Earlier this month, Martinez obtained a temporary restraining order against Berry after accusing the actress of physically abusing their son during an alleged incident at her home on September 26. He has also sought sole custody of Maceo.

Berry has denied the allegations, maintaining that the incident involved playful roughhousing that escalated into an argument. Her legal team has described Martinez’s filing as “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading”.

The former couple’s custody dispute has involved multiple court filings, with Berry accusing Martinez of attempting to turn their son against her and of interfering with his therapy and educational needs. Martinez’s legal team has rejected those claims.

The actress has also disputed her ex-husband’s request for sole custody and asked the court to restore their previous shared custody arrangement.

Maceo reportedly testified during a closed court hearing earlier this month, with the details of his testimony remaining sealed.
