Plot allotment case: SC rejects NAB appeal against Sherpao
NAB had failed to plead his case, the bench observed.
ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal against former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), for illegally allotting plots in Peshawar. NAB had filed references against Sherpao and former Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) chairman Zahir Shah in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) for allotting costly plots in upscale localities in Peshawar on the directives of the former minister. Following their acquittal by the PHC, NAB filed an appeal with the Supreme Court. Cases against Sherpao were closed after the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in 2007. However, the cases were reopened after the Supreme Court declared the NRO invalid. On Thursday, Sherpao’s counsel informed a three-member bench of the Supreme Court that the PHC had waived of the fine imposed on his client and acquitted him in the case since NAB had failed to produce any witnesses or evidence before the court. NAB had failed to plead his case, the bench observed.
