Kristen Bell has revealed that her eldest daughter, Lincoln, secretly takes photos of her father, Dax Shepard, when the actress is away for work, giving her a glimpse into the family’s activities at home.
The Nobody Wants This star shared the story during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, October 22, explaining that she had been travelling in and out of town for around six weeks while promoting her work.
“As a mom, you get nervous to leave town, but then you realise they’re fine,” Bell told host Jimmy Fallon. She added that she had not received any calls from school about her children being absent and that nobody had returned home needing stitches.
However, Bell revealed that she had a way of finding out what happened while she was away. “Here’s what he didn’t consider: I have a mole on the ground, obviously,” she joked, referring to her eldest daughter’s secret updates.
Bell explained that Lincoln, 13, had been sending her what she called “in-house paparazzi photos” of Shepard. One picture showed the actor and podcast host raiding the cereal cupboard at around 10 p.m., despite the children supposedly being in bed.
“It is 10 p.m., we’re supposed to be in bed, but Dad is in the cereal cupboard, and he’s just like going hog wild,” Bell recalled of the message accompanying the photograph.
Fallon showed the audience one of the pictures, prompting Bell to affectionately praise her daughter. “That’s my girl right there!” she said.
The late-night cereal raid was not the only evidence Bell received about what happened at home during her absences. The actress said she regularly received phone notifications informing her that McDonald’s or Taco Bell had been delivered.
“I usually receive, almost immediately, notifications on my phone,” she explained. “Your McDonald’s has been delivered. Your Taco Bell has been delivered.” She joked that Shepard and their daughters seemed to rely on fast food whenever she was away.
Bell and Shepard married in 2013 and share two daughters, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11. The couple have occasionally discussed their parenting experiences publicly, with Shepard previously describing fatherhood as the most transformative experience of his life.
“Nothing compares to being a dad. It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me,” Shepard said during a panel at South by Southwest in March 2023.
Bell has also recently spoken candidly about the challenges of balancing marriage and parenting. In an interview with Bustle, she pushed back against the idea that her celebrity status makes family life easier.
“It’s hard,” she said. “Do not think because I am on your television that it is easy for me. It’s brutal. I cry weekly.”
