The search for the next James Bond is reportedly entering its final stage, with Callum Turner and Jack Lowden among the actors expected to undergo screen tests as Amazon MGM Studios looks for Daniel Craig’s successor.
According to Variety, the final auditions could begin as early as October 23, although the exact list of actors taking part has not been confirmed. Reports from other entertainment outlets have also named Josh O’Connor as a potential finalist, while the identity of another possible candidate remains unclear.
Jacob Elordi, who had been linked to the role, is reportedly not among those taking part in the latest screen tests. Jack O’Connell, another actor previously discussed as a contender, has also been reported to be out of the running.
Turner, 36, has attracted attention for his performances in Fantastic Beasts and Masters of the Air. He has been linked to the coveted role for months but has not publicly confirmed any involvement in the final casting process.
Lowden, also 36, is known for playing River Cartwright in the spy drama Slow Horses. Speculation intensified after his co-star Gary Oldman appeared to suggest that the casting decision had already been made, although no official announcement has followed.
O’Connor, known for The Crown and Challengers, has also emerged in recent reports about the auditions. However, Amazon MGM Studios has not officially confirmed the reported shortlist or identified its preferred candidate.
The new Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Nina Gold overseeing casting and Steven Knight writing the screenplay. The project follows Amazon MGM Studios gaining creative control of the franchise in 2025.
Craig last played the British secret agent in No Time to Die, released in 2021. Since then, speculation about his replacement has included numerous established actors, but the studio has yet to announce its choice.
Although the reported screen tests suggest the selection process is progressing, the final candidates and announcement date remain unconfirmed. The next James Bond casting decision is expected before the end of 2026, according to industry reports.
