Sylvester Stallone has openly defended casting his daughter, Scarlet Rose Stallone, in Tulsa King, acknowledging that family connections helped her secure a role in the Paramount+ crime drama.

In an interview with USA Today, the actor addressed criticism over Scarlet’s casting and argued that parents naturally want to give their children opportunities.

“Of course it’s nepotism,” Stallone said, defending his decision to help his daughter enter the industry. He added that parents want the best for their children and are inclined to give them every advantage available.

Stallone, 80, stars in Tulsa King as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a mafia figure sent to Oklahoma after serving time in prison. Scarlet, 24, plays Spencer, a stablehand who has appeared in the series since its launch. Her character is expected to receive a larger role in the ongoing fourth season.

Although Stallone acknowledged the advantages Scarlet received, he stressed that securing an opportunity does not guarantee a lasting career.

“Can they maintain that level of excellence? That’s out of our hands,” he told. He added that opening the door for a young performer is one thing, but maintaining a high standard in front of millions of viewers requires ability.

Scarlet has also spoken about how working with her father has affected their relationship. During an interview with PEOPLE at PaleyFest NY on October 10, she said the experience had changed their dynamic.

She explained that their professional collaboration had allowed them to spend time together in a different way, helping them grow closer and develop greater mutual respect.

Beyond Tulsa King, Scarlet appeared in the 2025 films Hunting Season and Gunslingers. Her television role marks a prominent collaboration with her father, who has enjoyed a decades-long career in Hollywood through films including Rocky and Rambo.
