In a suspected blind murder case, the bodies of a mother and her daughter were found under mysterious circumstances at a house in the Qureshi Abad Garja area within the limits of Dhamial Police Station in Rawalpindi.
Both appeared to have been strangled, while one of the victims also bore marks of violence inflicted with an instrument. Police have registered a case.
According to police, the case was registered on the complaint of the deceased woman's son, Suleman Ejaz. In his statement, he said he was a resident of Gujranwala and had three brothers and two sisters.
His two sisters, identified as Roshni and Noman Ejaz, lived with their mother, Naweza Bibi, in a rented house in Mohalla Qureshi Abad, Rawalpindi.
He said Roshni had a four-year-old son, Isa, and a six-year-old daughter, Abrish, while his other sister, Noman, had no children and was divorced.
He said he received a telephone call on October 22 informing him that his mother and sister had been murdered in Qureshi Abad. He contacted his sister Roshni, who confirmed the news. He then travelled to Rawalpindi with his maternal aunt, Najma, also known as Ghulam Fatima.
According to the complainant, Roshni told him that on the night of October 22, both sisters had gone to Quaid-i-Azam Colony for some work. Noman had returned home about an hour before her. Their mother, Roshni's daughter and son, and Noman were present in the house.
When Roshni returned late at night after finishing her work, the main gate of the house was locked from inside. She knocked for quite some time, and after approximately 10 minutes, her six-year-old daughter Abrish opened the latch.
Upon entering the house, she saw Noman Ejaz lying in a room covered in blood, with blood coming from her head. She immediately went into another room, where she found her mother's body as well.
She raised an alarm, drawing a large number of neighbourhood residents to the scene. They informed the police through emergency helpline 15.
The complainant stated that his mother, Naweza Bibi, and sister, Noman Ejaz, had been unlawfully murdered by unidentified suspect or suspects for unknown reasons.
Police officials said a case had been registered and an investigation was under way.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim took notice of the double murder and sought a report from the Rawalpindi regional police officer. Subsequently, Rawalpindi City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera visited the crime scene and reviewed the investigation.
The provincial police chief directed the CPO to investigate all aspects of the incident and ensure the immediate arrest of the suspects. He instructed the police to utilise all available resources to apprehend them.
