Nicholas Galitzine has described filming Red, White & Royal Wedding as a “nice reset” after completing work on the intense Second World War drama The Mosquito Bowl, reflecting on the contrast between the two projects.
Speaking to Variety, Galitzine discussed moving between the romantic comedy sequel and Peter Berg’s historical war film, which required a physically demanding and immersive approach to depicting the experiences of American servicemen during the Pacific campaign.
In The Mosquito Bowl, Galitzine plays John McLaughry, one of four talented American college football players who abandon their promising sporting careers to enlist in the US Marine Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The film also stars Bill Skarsgård as Bob Bauman, Ray Nicholson as Tony Butkovich and Tom Francis as David Schreiner.
Based on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Buzz Bissinger’s book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, the film follows the young athletes as they confront the brutal realities of war and the bonds formed between men facing extraordinary circumstances.
The production pushed Galitzine beyond his previous experiences as an actor. In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, he described how the cast performed much of the action themselves, with limited use of stunt doubles. He recalled explosions going off just feet away, trees catching fire and the sounds of war surrounding them during filming.
By contrast, Red, White & Royal Wedding returns Galitzine to the romantic world of Prince Henry, the British royal whose relationship with American politician Alex Claremont-Diaz, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez, became the focus of the 2023 film Red, White & Royal Blue.
The sequel sees both actors reprise their roles, with Jamie Babbit directing a screenplay written by Gemma Burgess, Matthew López and original novel author Casey McQuiston. The returning cast includes Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Ellie Bamber, Clifton Collins Jr. and Stephen Fry, alongside new additions Henry Ashton and Alex Høgh Andersen.
Plot details for Red, White & Royal Wedding remain under wraps, although the title has fuelled anticipation about the next chapter in Henry and Alex’s relationship.
Galitzine has continued to build a diverse filmography, moving between romantic dramas, historical stories and thrillers. His credits include The Idea of You, Mary & George and The Craft: Legacy, while his role in Red, White & Royal Blue helped introduce him to a wider international audience.
The Mosquito Bowl is scheduled to open in select cinemas on October 30 before arriving on Netflix on November 25, 2026. A release date for Red, White & Royal Wedding has not yet been announced.
