Court rejects anchor Iqrar’s bail plea

KARACHI:

A judicial magistrate east has rejected the bail application of Awam Raj Party chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan in a case involving alleged anti-state posts on social media. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had registered the case against Iqrar-ul-Hassan, who is currently in jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the judicial magistrate adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by Iqrar-ul-Hassan in the case.

The hearing was postponed due to the absence of the investigation officer, who could not appear before the court because of his engagement in a case at the Sindh High Court, Advocate Shahid Korejo informed the magistrate.

During the proceedings, defence counsel Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq argued that his client had neither promoted terrorism nor glorified any proscribed organisation.

He maintained that Iqrar-ul-Hassan had merely discussed the possibility of governor's rule.

The court observed that it would proceed to announce its decision if the investigation officer failed to appear.
