Govt officers ordered to declare dual citizenship

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has directed civil servants to declare their own and their dependants' foreign citizenship and travel documents, as well as details of marriages to foreign nationals, under the Foreign Citizenship Declaration Rules, 2026.

Officials have been given 90 days from the notification of the rules in the official gazette to submit the required declarations, with failure to comply or providing incorrect information to be treated as misconduct.

According to an office memorandum issued by the Establishment Division, all ministries and divisions have been instructed to compile and submit records of the relevant officers, including their names, designations, basic pay scales and other required particulars.

The information sought also includes details of the foreign citizenship and travel-document status of civil servants and their dependants.

The memorandum stipulates that declarations must be submitted within the prescribed 90-day period following notification of the rules in the official gazette.

Failure to furnish the required details within the deadline, or the submission of false or incorrect information, will be treated as misconduct.

The Establishment Division said the directives would not apply to officers belonging to the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), the Secretariat Group (SG) and the Office Management Group (OMG), which have been exempted from the requirements.
