Australian model Sahara Ray’s former roommate, Chloe Spence, reportedly sought a restraining order against her in 2024, two years before Ray’s death.
According to documents described by TMZ, Spence accused Ray of misusing prescription medication and injuring her during a confrontation at home.
Unnamed sources later told the outlet that the pair had resolved their differences.
Ray, founder of Sahara Ray Swim, died on Sunday, October 18, aged 34. Her family confirmed that she died in hospital surrounded by loved ones. An official cause of death has not been confirmed.
Spence filed her restraining-order petition in June 2024, describing an alleged confrontation from April of that year.
According to TMZ’s account of the documents, she claimed Ray charged towards her, grabbed her face and pressed her fingernails into her skin, leaving a cut and scar beneath her left eyebrow.
Spence also alleged that Ray had taken Xanax without a prescription and had been in an “intoxicated delusional state” on multiple occasions. The filing reportedly included remarks that Spence said had frightened her and made her fear for her safety.
The request was dismissed in July 2024 after neither woman appeared at a scheduled hearing. The dismissal did not establish whether the allegations were true.
Ray had previously spoken publicly about seeking treatment. In December 2021, she told followers she had entered a Malibu treatment facility for a planned 30-day stay, describing a programme focused on mental health, wellness, and drug and alcohol addiction.
Following Ray’s death, her younger sister Ruby shared photographs of the siblings and posted a tribute on October 19. Remembering her sister, she wrote, “I just want my big sister,” and promised to spend the rest of her life loving her.
Their mother, Gretchen Bach, also shared tributes, while model and musician Sabrina Zada and British model Lottie Moss remembered their friendship with Ray. Moss expressed regret over not replying to Ray’s last message and returning her call.
