Anyone found responsible for negligence in the Mir Raza Ali case will face punishment, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Wednesday, as the provincial government reviewed the findings of the Judicial Commission formed to examine the matter.
Speaking to the media, Sharjeel said the commission had been constituted on the provincial cabinet's decision and its report was presented at the cabinet meeting a day earlier.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has formed a three-member committee comprising Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani and Nasir Shah to examine the report and brief the cabinet, he said.
Sharjeel added that the government would ensure implementation of the commission's recommendations.
He cautioned against holding an entire department responsible for an individual's failure, saying it would be unfair to attribute the actions of one person to the entire police force. "This is the same Sindh police that have solved major cases," he said, adding that the case should serve as a lesson for the police to conduct thorough investigations rather than rush to conclusions.
He said the police were responsible for ensuring transparent investigations and bringing those responsible to justice.
Turning to Karachi's transport infrastructure, Sharjeel said the Orange Line project was ready, while the most difficult and disruptive phase of construction on the Red Line along University Road had been completed.
Although traffic disruption on University Road had eased, encroachment-related issues remained, he said. The remaining work on the Red Line includes the construction of stations and a depot.
