Actor Asia Kate Dillon, known for roles in Billions, Orange Is the New Black and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, has announced they are seeking customer service work after a decline in acting opportunities.
In a statement shared on social media on Tuesday, Dillon explained that their acting work “has all but diminished” after 11 years working exclusively in theatre, film and television.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, said they first entered the service industry at the age of 15, working at Ithaca Bakery in New York. Their previous roles included dishwasher, food runner and floor manager.
“I continued working in food and general customer service, alongside any acting gigs I could rustle up, until the fall of 2015 when I was finally able to make the transition to a full time income stemming from just my acting work,” Dillon wrote.
They added that the current situation reflects wider challenges facing performers, particularly those who are transgender, non-binary or gender non-conforming.
“Now, like for many, many performer colleagues of mine — particularly those of us who are trans/nonbinary/gender nonconforming — acting work has all but diminished, and I’m in need of service work once more,” they said.
Dillon played Taylor Mason across six seasons of Billions, appearing in 71 episodes, and portrayed Brandy Epps in Orange Is the New Black. Their film credits also include the John Wick franchise.
Despite returning to the job market, Dillon expressed enthusiasm for customer service, highlighting their passion for food, drink and creating welcoming environments.
They said they are available for part-time, evening and weekend work, adding that they are a quick learner who can adapt to new payment systems.
