Rapper Pooh Shiesty is reportedly being confined to his cell for 23 hours a day at a Texas jail, as federal prosecutors push back against his legal team’s request for improved conditions ahead of his February 2027 trial.
The rapper, whose real name is Lontrell Williams Jr., is being held at Rolling Plains Regional Jail in Haskell, Texas.
His lawyers filed an emergency motion seeking court intervention, claiming his monthly in-person visitation allowance had been reduced from four hours to two.
The defence argues that Williams has not engaged in violent or threatening behaviour warranting the restrictions and says the jail has offered only a vague explanation that his isolation is necessary for his protection.
His attorney, Kent Schaffer, told Complex, “He is locked down 23 hours per day and has no contact with anyone other than staff.”
Schaffer also argued that pre-trial detention should not be punitive and said the restrictions were affecting his client’s mental and emotional well-being.
Williams’ aunt has similarly expressed concerns about his anxiety and apparent decline.
However, federal prosecutors are urging the judge to reject the request, arguing that the restrictions are necessary to maintain security and order.
According to court documents reviewed by Complex, they cited alleged safety concerns, including an incident involving inmates attempting to reach Williams and claims about his conduct at a previous halfway house.
Prosecutors also pointed to his access to a tablet for video calls, emails, games and streaming content, stating that he had made 231 video calls totalling more than 45 hours.
Williams’ trial over alleged robbery and kidnapping involving Gucci Mane is scheduled to begin in February 2027. The allegations have not been established in court.
