Robert Pattinson reportedly received 200 canisters of Zyn nicotine pouches as part of director Lance Oppenheim’s unusual attempt to persuade him to star in Primetime, an upcoming A24 film.
According to Fashion Times, Oppenheim sent the package addressed to “Chris Han-Zyn”, a pun referencing Chris Hansen, the television presenter Pattinson portrays in the satirical drama. The accompanying letter reportedly opened with the same joke, turning the delivery into an unconventional casting pitch.
Oppenheim, known for documentary projects, was pursuing Pattinson for his first narrative feature. Rather than relying solely on traditional industry approaches, the director reportedly tailored the gesture to the actor’s interest in Zyn nicotine pouches.
Pattinson initially responded to the role offer with “no way dude”. However, he ultimately agreed to take part in the project, which is set in 2006 and centres on the rise of To Catch a Predator, the NBC programme that confronted adults suspected of attempting to meet minors they had contacted online.
Pattinson plays Hansen, whose investigative television show moves into a primetime slot. The film also features Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers, according to the report.
The unusual package has attracted attention because it combines a celebrity casting story with a highly specific joke linked to the character. However, the nicotine pouches themselves are not a conventional promotional gift, and the stunt has also raised questions about using an addictive product to win over a potential cast member.
Oppenheim has previously directed documentaries including Some Kind of Heaven and Spermworld. Pattinson, meanwhile, has built a varied career following the Twilight franchise, working with filmmakers including David Cronenberg and Robert Eggers.
