Camila Mendes returns for 'Upgraded 2' as sequel begins production in Italy
Camila Mendes is set to reprise her role in Upgraded 2, the upcoming sequel to her 2024 romantic comedy, with production scheduled to begin in Italy this month.
Amazon MGM Studios is developing the follow-up, which will see Mendes return as both star and producer. Becca Gleason will direct the sequel, while Gulfstream Pictures and Honor Role are among the production companies behind the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The screenplay has been written by Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, who also penned the original film. Plot details for Upgraded 2 have not yet been revealed, but the sequel is expected to reach audiences worldwide through Prime Video.
The first Upgraded film starred Mendes as Ana, an art auction house intern whose trip to London takes an unexpected turn after she receives a first-class upgrade on her flight. The romantic comedy also featured Archie Renaux and Marisa Tomei and premiered on Prime Video in February 2024.
Mendes and Rachel Matthews will produce the sequel for Honor Role, the production company they founded to support character-driven storytelling. Other producers include Mike Karz and Bill Bindley for Gulfstream Pictures, Lena Roklin for Luber Roklin Entertainment and Piers Tempest for Tempo Production.
Mendes has continued working with Amazon MGM Studios on projects including Música and Masters of the Universe. She also appeared in Idiotka, a comedy released in 2026.
Gulfstream Pictures has several other projects connected to Amazon MGM Studios, including Honeymoon With Harry, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Kevin Costner and Sarah Pidgeon, and Goodbye Girl, featuring Kiernan Shipka and Cole Sprouse.
Gleason previously made her feature directorial debut with Summer ’03 and has additional projects in development for Netflix and Paramount.
Further casting announcements and details about the Upgraded 2 storyline have yet to be disclosed.
