Family rejects accident theory in woman's death
A 21-year-old woman was killed in a road accident near the University of Sindh, while a postmortem examination in Hyderabad triggered a commotion after her family accused doctors of removing organs from her body. Police arrested the rickshaw driver who allegedly fled the scene, leaving the injured woman behind.
According to police, Mehak Mallah, daughter of Amir Ali Mallah, was returning to her home in Jamshoro late at night from the University of Sindh Housing Society. She was travelling in a rickshaw when it reportedly collided with a timber-laden truck on the Indus Highway.
Mehak sustained critical injuries and was allegedly abandoned at the scene by the rickshaw driver, who fled with her purse and mobile phone. The truck driver had also escaped. The young woman later succumbed to her injuries.
SHO Zahid Jhatial shifted the body to Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Hospital in Jamshoro. Police arrested the rickshaw driver, Ahmed, recovering the victim's purse and mobile phone.
The family, however, refused to accept the incident as an accident, alleging that Mehak had been murdered. They initially declined to take custody of her body, prompting Jamshoro police to transfer it to the mortuary at Civil Hospital Hyderabad for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
