Capital embraces traditional beverage
Nabeez, a centuries-old Sunnah drink, is experiencing a revival in the federal capital as residents increasingly turn towards natural and traditional beverages as healthier alternatives to sugary soft drinks and artificially flavoured products.
Prepared by soaking dates or raisins in water overnight, Nabeez has gained renewed popularity in homes and religious gatherings across the federal capital.
The drink is particularly attracting health-conscious consumers seeking a combination of traditional values, natural nourishment and spiritual significance.
Local grocery stores and dry-fruit retailers have reported a rise in demand for premium dates and raisins, with traders attributing the trend to growing awareness through social media, religious scholars and wellness communities.
Zahir, a dry-fruit trader in Aabpara Market, said customers were increasingly purchasing Ajwa and other varieties of dates and raisins specifically for preparing Nabeez. He added that demand rises during Muharram, Ramazan and other religious occasions when people show greater interest in traditional Sunnah practices.
Islamic scholar and Jamaat-e-Islami Women Wing Islamabad Information Secretary Sadia Saif said Nabeez held religious significance, citing authentic Hadith references. She explained that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) consumed Nabeez prepared from dates or raisins before fermentation occurred.
