Saturday Night Live UK has taken aim at US comedian Shane Gillis following controversy over his comments about women's gym attire during his recent Saturday Night Live monologue.

UK comedian Ania Magliano addressed the controversy during the October 17 episode of the show's “Weekend Update UK” segment, delivering a series of jokes about Gillis, 38.

“A ride operator at Munich Oktoberfest was praised for giving free cycling shorts to female riders,” Magliano said, before turning her attention to Gillis's remarks about women wearing revealing gym clothing.

She also mocked the comedian for accidentally swearing during a Dr Seuss-themed sketch on the US programme, telling viewers: “Oh Shane, you’re not allowed to say that, you stupid f**king c*nt.”

The joke prompted loud laughter from the studio audience.

The segment aired as the UK and US versions of Saturday Night Live marked their first official crossover, with US cast member James Austin Johnson reprising his impression of President Donald Trump in a sketch featuring British comedian George Fouracres as Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

Gillis's original monologue, broadcast on October 10, drew criticism after he described some women's gym clothing as resembling what “wh*res” wear.

The comments prompted backlash from viewers and fellow entertainers, including Dan Levy and  Kathy Griffin.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live UK is scheduled to welcome Cynthia Erivo and Blossoms on October 24, while the US edition returns on October 31 with host Inde Navarrette and musical guest Gracie Abrams.
