LAHORE:

A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been booked for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and damaging a woman's car in a collision on Jail Road near Services Hospital.

According to the FIR registered at Shadman police station, the incident occurred around 9:35am on October 14 when a vehicle driven by ASI Ghafir Naveed hit the parked car of Saima, causing considerable damage.

The FIR alleged that the official posted at the Judicial Wing at Lahore Police Lines was driving under the influence at excessive speed. The case was registered under sections 279 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with relevant provisions of the Punjab Police discipline law and the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order, 1979.

Police officials said Ghafir had paid Rs500,000 to compensate the woman and had reached a settlement.

However, the settlement will not affect departmental proceedings against the officer. A senior superintendent of police operations is conducting the inquiry.
