FIR registered in school roof collapse

PESHAWAR:

Police have registered a case at Agha Mir Jani Shah police station over the roof collapse at a school in Dir Colony that reportedly killed dozens of children and a female teacher and injured 52 others.

According to the FIR, substandard construction material had allegedly been used in the school building, which was in a dilapidated and unsafe condition. The report stated that complaints had previously been lodged about the deteriorating condition of the building's walls and roofs, but the school owners allegedly failed to address the concerns despite complaints from students.

The FIR stated that the roofs of the nursery classroom on the second floor and rooms on the ground floor collapsed in the incident, causing multiple casualties.

According to the case details, the school stands on a 16-marla plot owned by Waheed and Javed. The land was leased in 2024, after which a building was constructed on the site. Details regarding the construction of the building and the materials used have also been included in the FIR.

Police said the case had been registered against the contractor responsible for constructing the building, its owners and shareholders.
