Filming has begun in the French Alps on Pumping Black, a thriller starring Jonathan Bailey and Natalie Portman, with Daniel Quinn-Toye, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Arieh Worthalter and Tony Hale joining the cast.

The film is set in the competitive world of elite professional cycling. Production is scheduled to continue until early December, following the project’s announcement earlier this year ahead of its market launch at the Cannes Film Festival.

Bailey, known for Wicked and Jurassic World: Rebirth, and Oscar winner Portman, whose credits include May December, lead the film.

The supporting cast also includes Lukas Gage, known for The White Lotus, and Alex Akpobome, who appeared in Industry.

Quinn-Toye, whose credits include Sterling Point, joins alongside Tønnesen, known for The Weight.

Worthalter, a César Award winner recognised for The Goldman Case, and Emmy winner Hale, known for Veep, complete the latest announced additions.

Pumping Black follows Taylor Mace, a 35-year-old cyclist approaching the end of his professional career.

He comes under the guidance of Andrea Lathe, a doctor driven by her pursuit of victory and power. As the race unfolds, Taylor is forced to take increasingly dark measures to protect his secret and maintain his lead.

Mimi Cave, whose previous directing credits include Holland and Fresh, is directing from a screenplay by Haley Hope Bartels.

Anton Studios is fully financing the production and handling worldwide sales, with CAA co-representing the film in the United States.
