RuneScape: Dragonwilds plans multiple sagas as player count nears 3m

Jagex has confirmed plans for multiple future sagas for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, with the survival-crafting game approaching three million unique players and a multi-year support plan in development.

Speaking to WCCFTech at RuneFest, Executive Producer Jesse America and Creative Director Rick Turek confirmed that the studio intends to continue expanding the game beyond its currently announced content.

“There is a string of sagas planned, and we’re committed to the game for the long haul,” the developers said. With each saga expected to deliver approximately a year of content, the plans could extend support well beyond 2027, although Jagex has not confirmed an end date.

The developers also revealed that “close to three million people have played the game now—unique players”. The figure includes players across its available platforms and subscription services rather than representing direct sales alone.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds launched in early access in 2025 before reaching version 1.0 and expanding to consoles. Its full release also brought the game to Xbox Game Pass and higher PlayStation Plus subscription tiers.

Jagex said the game's performance on these services has exceeded expectations. “Sony and Microsoft are extremely happy with results and interaction with RuneScape: Dragonwilds,” the developers said. “Higher than what they normally see.”

The studio also revealed that its audience has broadened since early access. Initially, approximately 85% of players were active RuneScape users, but that balance has since moved towards an even split between existing fans and newcomers.

Jagex is also partnering with CurseForge to make mod installation more accessible. The planned system will allow players to discover and install mods through an integrated browser and installer, with the developers confirming that “There will be oversight”.

The upcoming Blood Crystal Saga is scheduled for 2027, while further sagas are already in development.
