HARIPUR:
Three shops were completely burnt in the jurisdiction of City Police Station here on Wednesday. The police and eyewitnesses said that a shoe shop at Saddar Bazaar caught fire from a short circuit as electricity in the market was restored with increased voltage following unscheduled load shedding. The fire engulfed the whole shop, besides burning down two neighbouring shops which sold hosiery and garments. Ishtiaq Ahmed, one of the shop owners, said that the entire merchandise of the shops, which were worth over Rs2.3 million. The inferno also burnt telephone sets, a fax machine and computers of the office of a local newspaper.
