Major General Faisal Naseer was appointed on Friday as national coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for a period of three years on a "secondment basis".

According to a notification from the Establishment Division, the Inter-Services Intelligence's (ISI) director general of counterintelligence was appointed with the "approval of the federal government" and with "immediate effect and until further orders".

"With the approval of Federal Government, Maj General Faisal Naseer, HI(M), T. Bt & Bar, is appointed as National Coordinator, NACTA, in terms of Section 9(1) of NACTA Act, 2013, on secondment basis, for a period of three (3) years," on standard terms and conditions, as contained in JSI-4/85, with immediate effect and until further orders," the notification stated.

NACTA was established in 2008 within the Ministry of Interior and develops action plans against terrorism and extremism and reports to the federal government about the implementation of these plans, in addition to coordinating and preparing comprehensive national counter-terrorism and counter-extremism strategies.

NACTA had earlier also been tasked with implementing the 20-point National Action Plan.
