LAHORE:

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has identified a beheaded man found in a field in the Manawan area through biometric verification, while police claimed to have arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged honour killing.

The deceased was identified as Robin Masih, after the PSCA's Meri Pehchan team verified his fingerprints through a system linked with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

According to a PSCA spokesperson, the team acted on information received through Emergency Helpline 15 and used the biometric system to establish the deceased's identity. Police have registered a case and arrested a suspect in connection with the killing, which investigators suspect was committed in the name of so-called honour.

The body will be handed over to the family after completion of the required legal formalities.

Further details about the circumstances of the killing, the suspect's relationship with the deceased and the evidence collected have not been disclosed.

The PSCA said its Meri Pehchan Centre had processed more than 7,000 cases involving unidentified bodies and identified over 5,000 deceased people, enabling their remains to be returned to their families.
