Netflix has released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Greta Gerwig’s upcoming fantasy film based on C.S. Lewis’s beloved book series The Chronicles of Narnia.
The trailer introduces audiences to the magical world of Narnia, featuring Aslan, the White Witch and an array of mythical creatures.
Set to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”, the footage follows Digory and Polly, played by David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, as they discover the Wood between the Worlds. Their adventure begins when Andrew Ketterley, the magician played by Daniel Craig, gives them a magical ring that transports them to fantastical lands.
The trailer also features Emma Mackey as Jadis, who becomes the White Witch, and introduces Aslan, the mythical lion voiced by Meryl Streep. Other cast members include Carey Mulligan and Ciarán Hinds.
Gerwig, who directed the 2023 hit Barbie, said she grew up with the Narnia books and considers them an important part of her life. She approached Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos about adapting The Magician’s Nephew after the streaming company acquired the rights to the franchise.
The director described her vision for the film as a rock opera, with music playing a central role in bringing the fantasy world to life. She contacted Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to secure permission to use “Stairway to Heaven” after showing them an early version of the film.
The movie also marks Gerwig’s first feature film since Barbie and a major theatrical release for Netflix. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 12, 2027, before streaming on Netflix from April 2, 2027.
Gerwig hopes the film will leave audiences feeling inspired by its adventure and encourage them to embrace their own creativity.
