KARACHI:

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said girls possess immense potential, courage and dreams, stressing that empowering them is essential for building a strong, prosperous and equitable society.

In his message on the International Day of the Girl Child, Bilawal said the state, families, educational institutions and society must work together to create an enabling environment for girls, who should be regarded not as a burden but as a symbol of hope and a brighter future.

He said the historic political journey of PPP slain chairperson Benazir Bhutto was a shining example of women's capabilities and determination. When given opportunities to progress, women could transform not only their own lives but also the course of a nation's history, he added.

Bilawal said the democratic and egalitarian vision of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto continued to guide the PPP. He said the party had consistently taken measures to support underprivileged segments of society and protect their rights.

Referring to social protection and educational initiatives, the PPP chairman said the Benazir Income Support Programme, Waseela-e-Taleem and educational scholarships were important measures to assist deserving families and encourage children's education.

He said initiatives in Sindh to promote girls' education, protect women's rights and strengthen social protection were part of the same commitment.

Bilawal maintained that poverty should not stand in the way of any girl's future. His vision, he said, was of a Pakistan where every girl had access to education, healthcare and protection.

He stressed that girls must be provided with an environment free from violence and exploitation, along with equal opportunities to express their abilities and advance in life. Investing in girls' education and development was an investment in a brighter future for generations to come, he added.
