Asim Iftikhar to take charge as foreign secretary

The Foreign Office is set for a leadership change next week as Asim Iftikhar Ahmed is scheduled to take charge as foreign secretary on Monday after returning from New York.
Asim Iftikhar is currently in New York and is due to leave for Pakistan on Saturday, diplomatic sources said. In his absence, Nabeel Munir has been performing the duties of acting foreign secretary.
Asim Iftikhar has been appointed to replace outgoing Foreign Secretary Aamna Baloch, who is awaiting agrément from Turkiye to take up her new assignment as Pakistan's ambassador to the country.
