Paramount+ has ordered Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new animated series set in the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show will follow Avatar Kuruk, the Water Tribe Avatar who lived three generations before Avatar Aang.

The announcement was made during a New York Comic-Con panel for Avatar: Seven Havens, which premiered on Paramount+ on Friday. The new series is being developed by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios as the next instalment in the popular franchise.

Bryan Konietzko, who co-created Avatar: The Last Airbender with Michael Dante DiMartino, will serve as showrunner for Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos.

According to the official logline, the animated series will follow a rebellious teenage Avatar who challenges thousands of years of tradition by learning the four elements through adventures around the world. Along the way, he must stay ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates and chaotic spirits while finding his own ways to help others.

Paramount+ has also released first-look images from the upcoming series, offering an early glimpse at the new addition to the Avatar universe.

The announcement came as Konietzko and DiMartino introduced Avatar: Seven Havens, a series centred on the latest Avatar. The creators also confirmed that the show has been renewed for two additional seasons, which will be known as Books 3 and 4.

Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos expands the franchise's timeline by exploring an earlier Avatar and his adventures before Aang's era. The series' release date and further casting details have not yet been announced.

Development of the project was first reported by Knight Edge Media.
