The Kardashian family has faced criticism over an AI generated opening sequence for season eight of The Kardashians, with viewers questioning the message behind a skit that appears to reject artificial intelligence after using it to create the footage.

The sequence becomes increasingly surreal when the digital family reunites in Calabasas. Their appearances begin to glitch, with Khloé developing an oversized eye, Kim experiencing an unusual change to her ear and Kourtney’s face resembling a thumb.

The real family eventually confronts its artificial counterparts. When the digital Kris suggests AI could make filming easier by removing scheduling conflicts and the need for glam, the real Kris rejects the idea that technology could replace them.

Khloé then switches off the digital family, bringing the sequence to a close with the message, “The Kardashians: AI Could Never.”

However, the intended joke did not convince everyone. Some viewers criticised the family for using AI to deliver an apparently anti AI message. Others questioned the environmental cost of generating the video and argued that the point could have been made without using the technology.

Khloé responded to the criticism by sharing the opening on Instagram and urging viewers to watch until the end. She said comments from people who had only watched the first few seconds were frustrating.

The disagreement highlights the challenge of using controversial technology to make a point about its limitations. While the sequence presents AI as something that cannot replace the real family, some viewers felt the production itself undermined that message.

The season eight premiere is available to stream on Hulu.
