Saoirse Ronan has addressed speculation that her husband, Jack Lowden, could become the next James Bond after Gary Oldman suggested the actor was on a shortlist for the coveted role.
Speaking to the Associated Press on Sunday, Ronan acknowledged Oldman’s comments but stopped short of confirming whether Lowden had been selected to replace Daniel Craig as 007.
"Gary thinks he’s James Bond," Ronan said when asked about the rumours. She then indicated that the speculation has little impact on their daily life, saying she and Lowden are focused on ordinary responsibilities at home.
"We’re kind of getting on with our life, to be honest. We have plenty of other things to be dealing with," Ronan said, adding that walking their dog and making dinner are currently bigger priorities in their household.
Lowden, who stars alongside Oldman in Slow Horses, has been linked to the Bond role for several months. Oldman first fuelled the speculation in September when he told Canada’s The Morning Show that Lowden was rumoured to be on the shortlist and suggested that a decision had already been made.
Oldman later clarified his remarks during a panel at the TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. He said he had heard that the next Bond had been chosen but did not know which actor had secured the part. He also said he was hoping the role would go to Lowden.
Amazon MGM has not announced its choice for the next Bond. Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct the upcoming film, while Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. Amazon MGM gained full creative control of the Bond character and intellectual property in February 2025.
Lowden is among several actors who have been linked to the role, including Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Harris Dickinson.
Ronan’s comments leave the casting speculation unresolved, with no official confirmation from Amazon MGM about who will succeed Craig as James Bond.
