Lucy Hale is set to star in Roku’s upcoming limited series Scarlett Holmes, a romantic mystery show inspired by the world of Sherlock Holmes. The series is scheduled to debut in 2027.
Hale will play Scarlett Holmes, a modern descendant of the legendary detective who inherits her family’s exceptional powers of observation. However, instead of investigating crimes, Scarlett uses her skills to help people navigate dating, relationships and romantic dilemmas.
According to the series’ logline, Scarlett works alongside her sidekick, Jane Watson, as they help clients deal with mixed signals, secret crushes and complicated love lives. While Scarlett can solve other people’s romantic problems, she struggles to understand her own feelings.
Her personal life becomes even more complicated when she falls for Ollie Moriarity, a charming podcast producer who is secretly planning an exposé on her methods. Scarlett must then face what may be her most difficult mystery yet: her own love life.
Each episode of Scarlett Holmes will draw inspiration from a well-known romantic comedy, combining mystery elements with the conventions of the rom-com genre.
Hale said she is a longtime fan of romantic comedies and was drawn to the series’ blend of mystery, romance and humour. She described Scarlett as smart, curious and complicated while expressing excitement about playing the character.
Best known for playing Aria Montgomery in Pretty Little Liars, Hale has also appeared in romantic comedies and mystery projects including The Hating Game, Which Brings Me to You, Puppy Love, F, Marry, Kill and Ragdoll.
Scarlett Holmes is written by Paris Herbert-Taylor and Katie Wilbert and produced by Jaggi Entertainment. Sophie Tilson and Steve Jaggi executive produce, with Hale also serving as an executive producer.
