Reggie McFadden, the comedian and actor known for his work on In Living Color, has died at the age of 57.

McFadden’s sister, Bernice McFadden, confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter, saying the U.S. State Department notified the family that he had died in Tanzania. McFadden had been living in the country for several years. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Born in Brooklyn, McFadden appeared on In Living Color from 1993 to 1994, playing various characters during his run on the sketch comedy series.

His television credits also included appearances on Martin, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, Coach, Moesha, Getting Personal and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

McFadden also worked in film, with credits including Jacob’s Ladder and Little Nicky. Beyond acting, he had a comedy special on Comedy Central and was a regular performer in Las Vegas.

News of McFadden’s death prompted tributes from fellow comedians. Comic Tony Luewellyn wrote on Facebook, “Rest in peace, fellow comedian, Reggie Mcfadden,” before adding, “Another fallen veteran comedy brother!”

McFadden had also pursued business interests in Tanzania. His Facebook page states that he was the owner of a gold mining company and an entertainment production company in the country.

McFadden is survived by family members, including his sister Bernice, who confirmed his death.
