Olivia Rodrigo could match Billie Eilish record with three Album of the Year nominations

Olivia Rodrigo could earn her third consecutive Album of the Year nomination at 2027 Grammy Awards

Olivia Rodrigo could become the latest woman to have each of her first three studio albums nominated for Grammy Album of the Year if You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love earns a nomination at the 2027 ceremony.

Rodrigo has already received Album of the Year nominations for both of her previous albums. Sour competed for the award at the 2022 Grammys, where it lost to Jon Batiste’s We Are.

Rodrigo nevertheless won three awards that night, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Drivers License”.

Her second album, Guts, returned her to the Album of the Year field at the 2024 ceremony, where Taylor Swift’s Midnights won the award.

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love could extend Rodrigo’s nomination record. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the largest opening of her career. The 2027 Grammy nominations are due to be announced next month.

If Rodrigo is nominated, she would join a small group of artists whose first three studio albums have all competed for Album of the Year.

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, achieved the feat with The College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation, although he did not win the category with any of the three albums.

Billie Eilish also achieved the three-album run with When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Happier Than Ever and Hit Me Hard and Soft. Eilish won with her debut album in 2020 and is the only woman to have achieved the run when considering albums she led as an artist.

Lady Gaga's record is less straightforward because The Fame Monster, which followed The Fame, is generally classified as an EP in the United States.

Her first three full-length studio albums were therefore The Fame, Born This Way and Artpop, with Artpop missing out on an Album of the Year nomination.

If nominated and ultimately successful, Rodrigo could become the first artist in this group to win Album of the Year with her third studio album.
