Farrah Abraham is facing a difficult recovery after undergoing double disc jaw surgery. Her manager, Chrissy Johnston, confirmed the procedure to PEOPLE, saying Abraham had her stitches removed on September 30, calling the milestone welcome.
The 35 year old personality currently has her mouth wired shut and is expected to remain unable to speak for about two months. She must follow a strict liquid diet, and Johnston said Abraham has already lost significant weight.
Johnston said Abraham has been dealing with severe pain and facial swelling, while restrictions on eating, opening her mouth and speaking have affected her mood. She said Abraham is trying to remain positive and is taking things one day at a time.
Abraham has also experienced hearing loss in one ear following the procedure, according to Johnston. The manager said Abraham has a long recovery ahead but is continuing to focus on her work, including her campaign for Austin City Council.
Abraham’s daughter, Sophia, recently offered followers a glimpse of her mother’s recovery during a TikTok livestream. Unable to speak, Abraham communicated through writing and said she felt like Frankenstein. She also indicated that she hoped the facial swelling would subside within three months.
Abraham first became known through MTV’s 16 and Pregnant before appearing on Teen Mom. She has continued to attract public attention through her television work and social media.
Her recovery remains focused on managing pain, swelling and the restrictions caused by having her jaw wired shut. Her manager’s update indicates that Abraham still has a healing period ahead while she works towards returning to her normal routine.
