Johnny Depp returns to major Hollywood filmmaking with Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, Paramount Pictures’ dark reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic. A second trailer has now been released, offering a closer look at Ti West’s horror influenced approach to the familiar Christmas story. Paramount has confirmed the film will arrive in cinemas on November 13, 2026.

The trailer presents Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly businessman whose hatred of Christmas leaves him facing supernatural consequences. Rather than treating the ghosts as purely whimsical figures, West’s version gives the encounters a distinctly frightening edge. The footage includes unsettling apparitions and imagery of Scrooge being buried alive, suggesting that the film will explore the darker elements of Dickens’ original tale.

West, known for horror films including X, Pearl and MaXXXine, previously said his early exposure to adaptations of A Christmas Carol helped shape his interest in horror. Depp leads a large ensemble featuring Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen.

The film represents Depp’s return to a major Hollywood studio production after his last such role in 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. He was subsequently replaced as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which was released in 2022. Depp has continued working in international and independent productions, including Minamata, Jeanne du Barry and Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness.

Ebenezer is also part of a renewed studio slate for Depp. He stars alongside Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz in Lionsgate’s Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb and scheduled for March 26, 2027.

With its Christmas setting, classic literary source and horror driven presentation, Ebenezer offers a markedly darker interpretation of Scrooge’s familiar redemption story when it reaches cinemas this November for audiences again.
