Joe Jonas has opened up about dealing with breakouts and how the experience changed the way he approaches skincare.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, the Jonas Brothers singer, 37, said he once believed his skin was fine as long as he washed his face at night. Over the past few years, however, he has learned more about how his skin reacts to different products and why a more considered routine works better for him.

Jonas said he experienced significant breakouts after filming a movie and initially struggled to understand what was causing them. He eventually realised that he may have been using certain products too quickly or in excessive amounts.

“I started breaking out quite a bit. I couldn’t figure it out,” Jonas said. “There [were] little things that I think that I probably used too much of or too fast, so I’m trying to slow down.”

The singer has also been open about men's skincare and beauty routines over the years. In 2022, he discussed his approach to cosmetic treatments and said he did not believe men should shy away from talking about skincare or ageing.

“We’re all getting older and part of that is being comfortable [in our skin],” Jonas previously said. He also revealed at the time that he had used the cosmetic injectable Xeomin for his frown lines and the scar between his eyebrows.

Jonas' skincare routine is also something he shares with his brothers. He joked that borrowing each other's products can cause disagreements between him, Nick and Kevin Jonas, although the siblings have found other ways to spend time together while touring.

The Jonas Brothers are currently on their Burning Up Tour All Over Again, which is scheduled to conclude in New Jersey in December. Jonas said that after performances, the brothers often spend time together in hotel rooms, watching sports and catching up.

The singer said they have also been making an effort to support each other's individual interests, whether that means playing golf, visiting a coffee shop or looking at art. For Jonas, the focus is ultimately on finding “balance” while working alongside his brothers.

Jonas is also currently the face of Kenneth Cole's new Inspire fragrance campaign, adding another beauty and grooming project to his growing focus on personal care.
