'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' reportedly getting re-release with extra footage featuring Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is reportedly being lined up for a theatrical re-release featuring additional footage, including a scene involving Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple.

According to Deadline, sources say the re-release of the Sony Pictures film will contain extra footage, although details beyond Dawson’s character have not been disclosed. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland.

Dawson previously revealed that she filmed a scene for Brand New Day that was ultimately removed from the theatrical version.

Her character, Claire Temple, is a nurse who provides medical assistance to vigilantes and has appeared across Marvel television series including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders.

The reported re-release comes while Brand New Day remains in cinemas internationally and continues its run at the global box office.

The film has earned $2.495 billion worldwide, including $950.7 million in North America. It has also become Sony’s highest-grossing film, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home, which finished its run with $1.92 billion worldwide.

The re-release would follow Disney’s recent theatrical return of Avengers: Endgame through Avengers: Endgame: Encore.

That re-release earned $86 million globally, including $26 million domestically, and included additional footage from Avengers: Doomsday.

No release date has been announced for the reported Brand New Day re-release. Deadline noted that Sony could potentially target a quieter period at the box office while securing premium large-format screens.

Sony previously re-released Spider-Man: No Way Home over Labor Day weekend in 2022, when the film earned $9.3 million during its domestic re-release.
